3 Things To Know Before Taking An Island Vacation

Island Vacation

While taking an island vacation might seem like the most ideal trip you could take, there are a few things you should be aware of before you head off on your flights to make sure that the trip is everything that you’ve imagined for all these years. So to help you with this preparation, here are three things to know before taking an island vacation.

Be Aware Of Your Sunscreen

When you’re spending any amount of time on an island, you’re mainly going to be outside for the majority of that time. In this type of environment, you’re going to likely be getting a lot more sun than you’re used to, which means you need to better protect your skin from sunburn. Because if you do get sunburned, especially on your first day on the island, you could severely ruin your vacation.

As you choose the sunscreen you’re going to use to protect your skin, you’ll want to make sure that you pick one that is approved for that area. On many islands, sunscreens that contain ingredients like oxybenzone, octinoxate, and octocrylene have been banned, as they can be bad for the water and the ocean life. So if you’re going to bring your own sunscreen from home, make sure it doesn’t contain these ingredients. Otherwise, you might want to plan on buying sunscreen once you get there. And in addition to sunscreen, you may also want to get some insect repellant as well, as many islands have big bug problems as well.

Plan For Rain

While you might imagine that the weather on an island is almost always perfect, the weather can also change very quickly. Knowing this, it’s wise to pack some things that you can use in the rain as well.

Because it will likely be warm while it rains, it’s best to pack something light that won’t make you too hot to wear in the rain. And if you were planning on packing something that shouldn’t be wet, it’s probably best to keep that thing at home where it will be safe.

Keep Your Stuff Safe

When vacationing on an island, you’re likely going to want to be spending a lot of time at the beach. But when you’re in the water, you’re not going to want to keep all of your belongings on you. Knowing this, you’ll have to come up with some way to keep your stuff safe when you can’t be right there with it on the beach.

Ideally, you should try not to bring any valuables with you that can be kept in your room. But for the things you do need to bring, try to hide those items in something that someone won’t want to steal or ask a local business on the beach to hold onto them for you.

If you have plans to take off on an island vacation soon, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you be ready for this next big adventure.
